The Tour

The Kumaon region lies in the northern hill state of Uttarakhand and offers a large number of dazzling mountain sceneries which can be seen from never lasting snow peaks of the great Himalayan range in the north down to the footfills. The village experience of Kumaon and the Himalayas, land of Tigers be combines perfectly with India Cycle Trails to create a complete memorable Himalayan experience.


Cycling / Terrain

This itinerary allows for average daily distances of approximately 20-50 kms. This is designed to enjoy the cycling through the rural life and meet the people of Kumaon. The vehicle will accompany and en-route make stop for bottled water and juices for the cyclist. A nice way of sharing different experiences encountered on the way. The support vehicle will always travel behind the last cyclist. If you wish to take a break from riding wait at the side of the road and supporting vehicle will pick you up.

Weather

The finest time for this Indian Adventure Tour is between January to mid-April and mid-September to December. Jan/Feb/Mar/Dec are cold but the mountain views are at their best. The cool weather in April with amazing mountain views is a bit hazy but rhododendrons are in full bloom. Sept/Oct/Nov would be cool weather and the mountain views are good. Average temperature ranges between 25°C and 2°C.

    Delhi – Kathgodam - Mukteshwar - Chalnichinna - Binsar - Corbett - Unchagaon - Agra - Delhi

      Day 1: Delhi

    Welcome to Delhi! Our representative will meet in in the airport arrivals area and transfer to hotel. After breakfast enjoy a half-day city tour of Old & New Delhi. Drive to Old Delhi past the Red Fort – Shah Jehan’s elegant citadel in red sandstone, visit Jama Masjid –India’s largest mosque and enjoy a cycle rickshaw ride through the bustling bazaar of Chandni Chowk “silver street” with its quaint shops & ancient gateways. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant in the city (on your own account). After lunch visit the beautiful ‘Humayun’s Tomb’ another Mughal era monument that is a testament to love and a predecessor of the world famous Taj Mahal. 

      Day 2: Delhi - Kathgodam - Bhimtal (Drive 30 Kms / Cycling 15 Kms) 

    Morning early breakfast transfer to Railway Station to board the train form Delhi to Kathgodam you will receive and driven to Bhimtal. Located in the foothills of Himalayas, a gateway town to higher regions of Kumaon. After lunch we meet the India Cycle Trails team as well as run through a briefing about the route and safety and try out cycles.

      Day 3: Bhimtal – Mukteshwar (Cycling 40 Kms) 

    After breakfast we get on our bikes and cycle approx. 40 kms towards Mukteshwar. It is a gradual uphill ride through pine trees apricot, apple and peach orchards that opens up to very picturesque landscapes. The scene beauty of the town is also worth exploring and wonderful panoramic views of the Himalayas ranges. Dinner and overnight stay in Mukteshwar.

      Day 4: Mukteshwar – ChalniChinna (Cycling- 50 Kms) 

    After breakfast we get on our bikes and cycle towards to Chalnichinna. The ride is predominantly downhill with a bit of uphill to the end. It is a beautiful road, lined with forests of Oak, Rhododendron, pine trees and great views of paddy fields, green countryside.  Our ride takes us through areas densely forested with tall trees as well as along road with beautiful open views of the Himalayas including the majestic Nanda Devi. Dinner and overnight stay in Chalnichinna.

      Day 5: Chalni Chinna (Walking 04 hrs) 

    This morning we ill go for a day hike with picnic lunch in the neighboring areas through multiple villages in the area s and will provide an excellent opportunity to interact and share tea with locals. The scenery along the walk consists of terraced fileds, old Kumaoni houses and small village temples, hike to the highest point for enchanting views of Himalayan Peaks. Dinner and overnight stay in Chalnichinna.

      Day 6: ChalniChinna – Binsar (Drive 50 Kms / Cycling- 25 - 30 Kms) 

    After breakfast we get on our bikes and paddle to the Jageshwar temple. It is a beautiful ride through Oak and Deodar forests with picturesque views of the hills and the valley. The Hindu pilgrimage town of Jageshwar believed to be the abode of one of the twelve ‘Jyotirlingas’; it is one of the most important religious places for Hindus surrounded by the thick Deodar forest. After visiting the temples you will reach Binsar Bird sanctuary in time for evening drinks/ tea, coffee and snacks - and with luck an unforgettable Himalayan sunset. Binsar is a ideal place for you to escape the pressures of modern life, giving you peace and privacy for a wonderful holiday experience. Away from the disturbance of traffic and noise, one gets a complete sense of privacy. Mountain Resort - Khali Estate is located in the Binsar Wild life Sanctuary and every room had complete view of Himalaya. Dinner and overnight stay in Mountain Resort, Binsar.

      Day 7: Binsar  (Walking 4 - 5 Hrs) 

    After breakfast with packed lunch we start hiking to Jhandhidar (Zero point - 2410m), which commands one of majestic and panoramic view of Himalayan peaks. Then follow the ridge down to Shiva temple and turn right towards Kanga china village. On way enjoy a packed lunch. This is basically a ridge walk partially through dense oak and rhododendron forests, hoary, old trees hung with lichen and covered with sweet smelling moss. The trail slopes gently downwards and offers lovely views into the Bhasoli valley on one side and on and off towards the Himalaya (approx. 4 to 5 hrs. walking). After reaching Kangar china and we drive back to resort. Dinner and overnight stay in Binsar Bird Sanctuary.

      Day 8: Binsar – Ranikhet (Drive 70 Kms / 30 Cycling) 

    After breakfast we get on our bikes and paddle to the Almora. Visit women weaving center Panchachuli traditionally, the inhabitants of this high altitude region were trans Himalayan traders and had socio economic ties with Tibet. The women stayed back and wove fine handloom shawls in Tibetan cashmere and sheep wool. Later we continue to Ranikhet the charming and majestic views of the pine trees, lush green forests, the scented mountain breeze, the fresh and pure, the singing of birds, the panoramic sight, all adds to the heavenly and pure feeling of Ranikhet. Dinner and overnight stay in Ranikhet. 

      Day 9: Ranikhet - Dhikuli (Corbett) (Drive 76 Kms / Cycling 25 Kms) 

    After breakfast we start drive and cycle to Dhikuli (Corbett). Corbett National Park –India's oldest and one of the best parks covering 1318 sq. kms is situated in the Himalayan foothills with open grasslands & river Ramganga flowing through its entire length. It is named after the famous hunter naturalist Corbett who, between 1907 & 1939 tracked down and killed maneaters which had claimed an aggregate of 1300 human lives. It is India's first & biggest Tiger reserve sponsored by ‘World Wildlife Fund’ supporting 50 mammals, 580 bird & 25 reptile species. After a welcome drink and a short briefing on your stay at different lodges. Lunch is served. Dinner and overnight stay in Ranikhet.

      Day 10: Dhikuli – Dhikala (Game Drive ) 

    Breakfast at 0600 hours. Early morning enjoy a Game drive in Corbett national park for tiger tracking. Drive along Ramganga river to look for the fish eating gharial and marsh crocodiles. With the possibility of seeing 5 species of Kingfishers, Pallas & Himalayan Grey Headed Fishing Eagles, Osprey, Crested Serpent Eagle and of course the Mammalia, the safaris is magical. Arrive Dhikala, the natural setting is awesome and the location is picturesque. Lunch/rest/relax and enjoy the panoramic view of the grassland area and its abundant wildlife. The elephant ride from Dhikala provides the opportunity for close viewing of wildlife. Overnight at the Forest Jungle Lodge.

      Day 11: Dhikala - Unchagaon (Drive- 197 Kms )

    This morning enjoy an Elephant Safari inside the forest for 30 minutes (Please note Elephant safari subject to availability). After breakfast we check out from the Jungle lodge start drive for 1 ½ to Dhangiri gate here we finish our wildlife safari and continue our drive for Unchagaon fort. In evening we shall take a customary ride on the Bullock cart or bicycle. The small trip on the Bullock cart reminds you of remote village scenes. This exclusive and easy journey takes you to exploration of colorful local bazaar and experiences the visit to the potter's villages.  Dinner and overnight stay in Unchagaon Fort.

     Day 12: Unchagaon - Agra (Drive 160 Kms / Cycling 20 hrs) 

    After breakfast we shall start the last cycling tour of our expedition taken experience the tranquility of countryside and farm life, and cycling along the sprawling acres of carefully nurtured crops. Lush green fields as far as eyes can see, glittering in the sun and merging into the distant horizon. Dinner and overnight stay in Agra.

     Day 13: Agra - Delhi (Drive 210 Kms)

    This morning after breakfast  and checkout from hotel and leave for half day sightseeing of Agra. You will first visit the Taj Mahal (closed on Fridays).The Taj Mahal is everything that has been said about it and more. Taking 22 years and 20,000 men to build, the white marble was quarried 200 miles away and was transported to the site by a fleet of 1000 elephants. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, in the mid-17th century.  The Taj Mahal is truly one of the wonders of the world. Though the Taj appears to be amazingly perfect from almost any angle, it is the close-up marble inlay work, which is astounding. You will have ample time to view and be mesmerized by this outstanding piece of architecture. Later you will visit the Agra Fort, an outstanding example of Mughal architecture. Agra Fort - the seat and the stronghold of the Mughal Empire under successive generations. This was the seat of Mughal rule and administration and the present structure owes its origins to Akbar who erected the walls and gates and the first buildings on the eastern banks of Yamuna River. Shah Jehan added the impressive quarters and the mosque while Aurangzeb added the outer ramparts. Visit its Hall of Public Audience and its Royal Pavilions. We will take lunch at the local restaurant in Agra. After lunch, we will drive from Agra to Delhi (210 Kms/ 04.30 Hours) On arrival in Delhi we will transfer to a hotel to shower and change and enjoy a farewell dinner. Later on time our representative will meet you and will transfer you to international airport to board your flight back home.
