Cycling / Terrain
Daily cycling average distance between 40 to 60 kilometers each day. Instead of giving a certain number of kilometers each day, we mention total distances between the destinations and leave the choice of cycling distances to our guests, The supporting vehicle will always be there at your service. En-route we will have bottled water and juices after every 15 to 20 kms available in the supporting vehicle, which will always follow the cyclists. If at any point riding seems a little hard, the supporting vehicle takes you for as long or as little as you wish it to.
Weather
January to mid-April and October to December is the best time to cycle from Mumbai to Goa. Average temperatures range from max of 35°C and minimum of 25°C. Please bring a sun hat, sun cream and sunglasses. The mornings and evenings are generally cool and mild. Please bring a jumper /windcheater and a sweater/shawl. Cycling from Goa to Cochin |

GOA – KARWAR – GOKARNA BEACH – HASSAN – HALEBID – BELUR – MYSORE - BANGALORE
Day 1: Goa - Palolem – Karwar | (Cycling-45 kms) |
We bid an adieu to Goa and via the streets that overlook the sea we enter into the state of Karnataka. The language changes here, and you can witness the European influences fading away, and all your surrounding becoming truly south Indian now. Await the pleasing surprises.
Day 2: Karwar – Gokarna Om Beach | (Cycling-46 Kms) |
On several little waves like streets we proceed further on towards our south. While biking all our way down towards the day’s destination we halt at the salt lagoon near Gokarna to watch the female workers working hard. After a few more short sharp hikes we go downhill to the enthralling Om Beach. We stay overnight in Gokarna.
Day 3: Gokarna Beach – Murudeshwar | (Cycling 60 Kms) |
To avoid the heat for the latter part of the day we start early for this slightly long trip. At the end of it you’ll be stunned when you catch the view more than 80 meters high Gopuram of the Hindu temple and the largest Shiva Statue in India, placed on a little land that projects out from the sea. We stay overnight in Murudeshwar.
Day 4: Murudeshwar – Kundapura | (Cycling 50 Kms) |
We start our day for the first few kilometres directly from the beach, getting a close view of the fishermen and the little villages. On our way we may visit an Emu farm. Our stay inn is around 8km from Kundapura. We stay overnight in Kundapura.
Day 5: Kundapura – Hassan | (Cycling 20 Kms) |
A wagon is arranged to visit Hassan; we hike for more than 1000m to reach the Deccan plateau. The decor changes vividly. While biking, we drive pass a forest and wildlife area which offers several points of interest on the way. We will stay here for the next two nights in Hoysana Village Resort located on the outskirts of the bustling town of Hassan. We stay overnight in Hassan.
Day 6: Hassan – Halebid - Belur – Hassan | (Cycling 60 Kms) |
Today’s trilateral biking tour will take you to visit the famous ancient Hindu temples and historical sites of the Kings of the Hoysala Dynasty of the 12th century at Belur and Halebid.
Day 7: Hassan – Mysore | (Drive 80 Kms/ Cycling 40 Kms) |
On the day 7th we arrive at one of the most fascinating towns of South India. Due to the long distance we start early, riding almost continuously downward all the way along, trailing more than 300mts of altitude. We halt at Krishnarajanagara and continue for the last 40 km to Mysore to avoid the heavy traffic on 4-lane highway. We will stay at the Viceroy hotel near the Maharaja’s Palace for the next two nights.
Day 8: Mysore | (Cycling 40 Kms) |
In the Morning we offer a short cycling trip to Srirangapatnam to visit the summer palace of Tipu Sultan, some temples and to have an unusual boat ride on a small river. Back in town we visit the splendid Maharaja’s Palace. In the evening it is shopping time at fabulous and colourful Devaraja-market.
Day 9: Mysore - Bandipur – Masinagudi | (Cycling 45 Kms.) |
We proceed towards the south on the 9th day to the former hunting lands of the Maharajas of Mysore, which now have been converted now into Wildlife Reserves. We camp for the night here. Here you get a good opportunity to watch wild from the bike itself.
Day 10: Bandipur – Nilambur | (Cycling 45 Kms) |
On the day 10 we explore the jungle and our chances improve to spot the wild species. We again start at sunrise, and cycle for some 25 km through the Reserve. We halt at the gate for a quick breakfast, followed by undulating roads through villages and through the tea, coffee and spice plantations. After a tea break we enjoy an almost 20 km long decline, crossing the habitat of the wild elephants. In the plains we reach amongst the teakwood forest of India and visit the teakwood museum in Nilambur.
Day 11: Nilambur – Kottakkal | (Cycling 40 Kms) |
On the day 11th we visit a rubber manufacturing industry. Besides the making of rubber, we learn about the single women working here. As we visit Kottakal the second part of the day is dedicated to Ayurveda. We learn about the plants used to make the ayurvedic medicines and also about ayurvedic treatment. You’re welcome to take an ayurvedic massage.
Day 12: Kottakkal – Guruvayur | (Cycling 55 Kms) |
OAs we approach the sea the humidity starts risin and the road remains undulated. Guruvayur itself is famous for its Shri Krishna temple, always surrounded by crowds of pilgrims. On the main entrance there are concerts of classical Indian dance and music.
Here one can spend hours, watching the people dance and listening to the music. Nearby there is a training camp for the temple elephants, which we shall visit in the afternoon.
Day 13: Guruvayur – Fort Kochi | (Cycling 60 Kms) |
The road along the coastline takes us southward as we cycle halting at various places to take a look at the manufactures of handicrafts, to also savouring the typical local dishes watch the Indian Ocean at Cherai Beach. Here we catch a ferry to visit the Fort Cochin. In the evening we enjoy the sunset near the Chinese Fishing nets.
Day 14: Fort Kochi |
On the 14th day of the tour we leave up-to you to go out for shopping, walking through historic places or relaxing at the beaches. Nowhere in India will you find such an assortment of the giant Chinese fishing nets, the 400-year-old synagogue, ancient mosques and Portuguese houses built half a millennium ago. You will notice a blend of medieval Portugal, Holland and an English country village on the tropical Malabar Coast. You can wander through the narrow lanes filled with spice-laden warehouses with the magnificent scent of spices in the air. In the evening you can enjoy a performance of classical Kathakali dancers.
Day 15: Fort Kochi – Alleppey | (Cycling 65 Kms) |
We ride along the Backwaters on a calm shoreline, and you can halt at the fishing hamlets for a snack or even for a swim in the sea. You check in on a famous house boat for a night cruise.
Day 16: Alleppey – Kochi |
You can board a boat jetty and travel for Cochin. Today you can spend a leisure time as you wish to. You may attend a class in Kerala cooking with Alexander family in Cochin. Together we prepare and enjoy a big farewell dinner in Alexander house and garden.
Day 17: Cochin |
On day 17 you will be assisted for a transfer for the International Airport to board the flight for onwards destination.
